I’m an Electrician… and I Want to Go Home Safe!
In the world of electricity, one small mistake can be deadly. A single spark, a quick touch, or an exposed wire—any of these can turn an ordinary workday into a disaster. That’s why, if you’re an electrician—like me—safety isn’t optional, it’s a way of life.
1. My First Step? Turn Off the Power and Breathe Easy
The golden rule: Never touch anything until the power is off.
Don’t rely on someone’s word or what you see-test it yourself. Use a voltage tester, and always test the tester before and after use. Electricity doesn’t give second chances!
2. My Helmet, Gloves, and Tools Are Not Just for Show
I never go to work without my PPE:
Insulated electrical gloves.
A helmet to protect me from falling objects or sparks.
Safety glasses and non-conductive boots.
They’re my armor in the field.
3. Don’t Touch… Until You Double-Check!
Too many workers have been shocked because they thought the power was off.
Simple rule: Test, then test again, then test again.
And always tag out the circuit—“Do Not Switch On – Technician at Work”—so no one restarts the power while you’re working.
4. I Don’t Work in Water – Electricity Doesn’t Swim!
If the floor is wet or it’s too humid, I stop.
No task is worth risking my life.
Dry = Safe. Wet = Regret.
5. My Tools Speak for Me
My tools are always in top condition:
Insulated screwdrivers, clean cables, and up-to-date testers.
I don’t use anything damaged or suspicious. My life is worth more than saving a few bucks.
6. Teamwork = Double the Safety
I don’t like working alone. A nearby coworker could save my life in an emergency.
In critical moments, two hands are better than one—especially when one is giving CPR.
7. I Finish My Job… and Leave the Area Safe
After every task, I review my work. I only restore power when everything is in place and safe.
Because I don’t want the next person to get hurt because of something I missed.
The Bottom Line?
I’m proud to be an electrician.
I respect my job—and I respect electricity.
It serves us when we handle it safely. It hurts us when we get careless.
Every day I go to work, I have one goal:
To go back home safe, see my family, and start a new day—alive and well.
